| Me, Myself, and I |
Some things you should know about me:
I'm a flagrantly materialistic bookworm and people observer. I hope to be a published author someday. I love coffee, junk food, sushi, and comedians like David Cross and Jim Gaffigan.
My future husbands are, in no particular order: Raul Esparza, Jason Bateman, David Tennant, Manoel Felciano, Michael Cerveris, Damien Rice, Will Arnett, Joshua Jackson, Colin Firth, John Krasinski, Jack Davenport, Steve Carell, and Stephen Colbert. And, of course, Jon Stewart. Seeing him on the street was, sadly, the highlight of my month.
Some of my best friends have LJ's, but for the most part, I'm here for the pretty icons and, of course, the fandoms. |
| The Fandoms |
• Harry Potter.
As you might have guessed by the header above, my foremost fandom is the massive HP fandom. Not only do I love (good) fantasy, but the characters- even the minor ones- are so superb that you can analyze them and write fic and make fanmixes for them to your heart's content.
My favorite characters are Ron Weasley, Remus Lupin, Luna Lovegood, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, and Neville Longbottom.
I didn't start out shipping anyone, but it's almost impossible to be in the fandom and not start to get ideas about who you'd like together. I have to admit- the only canon couple I'm even remotely interested in is Ron/Hermione. But I also ship Remus/Sirius, Draco/Harry, and Harry/Cho. And, more recently, James Potter/Teddy Lupin and Albus Severus/Scorpio.
I've finished Deathly Hallows, and already made a fanmix that contains spoilers from the book. I'll probably discuss it some on my journal, although I'll be sure to warn of spoilers and have an lj-cut when I do. If you've also finished the book, feel free to chat with me about it. ^_^
• Arrested Development
By far my favorite sitcom, perhaps even my favorite TV show ever, Arrested Development fills me with a ridiculous amount of joy. The humor ranges from blink-and-you'll miss it to extremely wacky, and while the broadness of it can annoy some viewers who prefer something more consistantly subtle or something more consistantly inane, I can count on one hand jokes that have fallen flat for me, out of all three seasons. This show has some of the best continuity I've ever seen, and the narrator helps you follow the plot- there are storylines that span only one-episode long, like most sitcoms, but also ones that span as much as a season long, or the whole run of the show! Arrested Development never tries to be anything other than what it is, a comedy. It doesn't have true dramatic moments, but that doesn't mean there isn't heart. Plus, on a completely shallow note, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett are both ridiculously attractive. (Less shallow: the ensemble is the best I've seen. Every actor is sublime.)
• The Office [US]
Another fantastic TV show, Michael Scott doesn't quite reach the heights of desperate-to-please David Brent, and the show overall isn't quite as glum and real as the UK version. It has more of a "sitcom-y" feel to it, but it's the best sitcom on TV today. The heart of the show lies, when not in Michael Scott's bumbling earnestness or the supporting characters (more fleshed-out and interesting than in the UK version) lie in the romances- Kelly and Ryan, Michael and Jan, Dwight and Angela, and, above all, Jim and Pam. I love reading the fics that deal with either these romances or the painful office interaction that makes this show so hilarious. Each actor is good with both comedy and more dramatic moments, and they've succeeded along with the writers in making their characters their own.
• Scrubs
The second-best sitcom on TV, Scrubs is the best at one thing- skillfully and organically mixing slightly wacky comedy with touching drama. The characters are loveable and wonderfully dysfunctional, the situations fairly realistic (and if not, the reactions to these situations are true to the characters, which is most important), and the dialogue sharp. I have to admit to loving the HoYay with this show, mainly JD/Cox or Cox/Ben, but nothing beats Turk/Carla, handled perfectly in canon. Why Johnny C. hasn't won an Emmy yet, I'll never know.
• Pirates of the Caribbean
Yes, the movies are somewhat cracky (especially the second and third), and they don't necessarily depict realistically how life was in that time period, but I love them just the same. All the characters are multi-faceted and wonderfully complex (well, except for maybe Will). Especially James Norrington, a commedore turned pirate turned admiral turned...ghost, but always with the same basic moral code and human decency. Jack Davenport is wonderful in the role, although Johnny Depp, as always, takes it to new heights. As movies, they're only okay- I wouldn't (and didn't) put them on my favorites list, but there's so much you can do with them.
