For those of you who don't know, [info]help_haiti is a community for people to raise money for Haiti. Anything from fanfic to icons to homemade goodies is being auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the charity of the bidder's choice. You can participate by offering something, and/or bidding on something. Additionally, you can request something specific you'd like in the Requests post. So far, [info]help_haiti has raised over $76,000, and that's discounting both the money that has been pledged, but not yet confirmed, and the filled Requests. That's an amazing achievement, and everyone should go check it out.

I personally bid on several things, and won two of those bids, both for fanvideos. They are both amazing, and I'd like to share them with you here.

fans of anything Heroes, Firefly, or generally awesome, check out these vids )

Title: what would jay-z do?
Summary: Songs that can be found on Artie Abrams' iPod. A character study, with a smattering of Tina/Artie.
Notes: Artie is a pimp. Or rather, he thinks he's a pimp, and is really just a total dork. He's optimistic, fairly confident, and a little naive. And just like every other teenager in the universe, has his own insecurities.

Songs are mix of hip-hop, rap, rock, pop, and indie. Artists include: the kooks, savage garden, david bowie.

Notes: I'm trying something a little new here; two "disks", one from Blair's POV and one from Dan's. Blair's songs are all Cat Power, and Dan's are all CAKE. 8 tracks each, all available for individual download and in a zip file. So, this mix is basically a character study of Blair and Dan, and my own musings on how their relationship would actually work. Uh, warning for angst and copious amounts of Breakfast at Tiffany references?

Title: my better half has bitten me
Warning: Violence, language
Spoilers: Nothing you wouldn't see in the trailer
Notes: Jennifer's Body is what would happen if Mean Girls & Heathers had a love child, and it grew up watching nothing but B-grade horror movies. It's not exactly a great movie- it maybe tries a little too hard, and I'm not entirely sure how much of the cheese was intentional- but it's entertaining as shit, and isn't that all that matters? So I made a fun quick mix, including songs by Peaches, The Kills, and Tegan & Sara. The songs may have additional "layers of meaning" if you've seen the movie, but it's really not necessary. :)

*slightly relevant note: both INXS songs were mentioned multiple times in the book, as songs being played in clubs. I just couldn't resist using them as bookends, especially "Devil Inside".*

From [info]yahtzee63: Every now and then the police arrest somebody suspected of some terrible, violent crime, and as a piece of public relations they'll announce all of the horrible books, movies and/or CDs they found in the suspect's house, as if to prove that the suspect is obviously guilty and horrible and monstrous.

So here is my challenge to you. You can either do this from memory or take a moment to look through your book and music collections, and then answer this question:

Name ten books, CDs and/or movies that you own that the police would cite as evidence against you at their press conference.

1) American Psycho, by Bret Easton Ellis
2) Pretty Dead Girl OST
3) Mein Kamph- Adolph Hitler
4) The Communist Manifesto
5) Criminal Psychology by Hans Gross
6) Dexter, Season 1
7) Darkly Dreaming of Dexter, by Jeff Lindsay
8) Assassins OBC
9) The Satanic Bible
10) Watchmen, by Alan Moore

The only one of these that I have legitimately freaked myself out with is "The Satanic Bible". I downloaded it as a .pdf because I was curious, and have yet to read a single word. A lot of these are pretty harmless, IMO. Pretty Dead Girl, especially, is clearly humorous and light, but... well, it deals cheerfully with necrophilia and attempted suicide, so....

Title: Season of Scars [EP]
Warning: Spoilers for the musical.

A mix for Roger, in all his introverted, hopeful, damaged glory. A large focus on Roger/April and especially Roger/Mimi, because I think a huge part of Roger's character is how romantic and idealistic he is, and how he almost seems to need romantic love to function. In the musical, we learn about Roger's character through the way he interacts with Mimi.

Download the individual mp3s (available for preview at box.net), or grab the zip. Includes songs by Sunset Rubdown, Rufus Wainwright, and Frightened Rabbit. Let me know if you need me to reupload something.

Title: Blood-Red Sunrise
Warnings: Some possibly disturbing content in the song lyrics.
Notes: This mix was done for [info]mixingmusic, Round 5. The theme was "fresh starts", and the prompt was:
It's a brand new day, and the sun is high. All the birds are singin' that you're gonna die. How I hesitated! - Now I wonder why. It's a brand new day. -Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

For this prompt, I tried to pick songs that weren't just about vengeance, but gleeful vengeance. The songs are in a vaguely chronological order, so the ones near the beginning are more tentative, self-loathing ("how I hesitated!"), while the ones near the end are victorious, for lack of a better word ("Now I wonder why. It's a brand new day").

Title: Losing My Religion
Warnings: Incest, the f-word in one of the songs.
Spoilers:: For the first two movies
Notes: I... yeah. I have no explanation for this. 15 songs (mp3s, box.net), including Cobra Starship, Cyndi Lauper, the Spring Awakening OBC, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Ms. Evans tells Ryan that 'losing my religion' is an old Southern phrase meaning to be at the end of your rope, or to lose your temper. Sharpay, who tends to take things too literally, insists that it's just losing your faith. When Ryan listens to the R.E.M song, however, he can't help but believe that it simply means falling in love. Sometimes, when it comes to Sharpay, he can't help but think that all three definitions apply.
